London. The most difficult days of World War II. Under constant bombardment by the German Luftwaffe, the citizens of the city decide to send their children to the countryside in order to keep them safe from the danger. But when George (Elliott Heffernan) decides to escape from the safety of his relocation, he heads back to London alone, determined to reunite with his mother, Rita (Saoirse Ronan). Steve McQueen’s BLITZ finds the director in expansive form, showing us the personal costs of war and the determination to carry on.
